Multiple photos showing diverse students socialising together and attending presentations by academics and tours of historic buildings

Our annual gathering of Evidence-Based Health Care (EBHC) DPhil and MSc students took place in early September, with attendees travelling from across the globe. This year’s Skills Week provided a great opportunity for the students to make connections both with their peers on the same programme and those from other programmes, with some very positive interaction and engagement between the DPhil and Master’s cohorts. Presentations by students across the programmes provided an invaluable sharing of projects and research, and opportunities for arranging collaboration e.g., helping with each other’s systematic reviews. Non-academic highlights included a tour of the beautiful Green Templeton Observatory, followed by drinks and dinner.

Students also took advantage of opportunities to meet face-to-face with their supervisors and other academics, and learned multiple, invaluable skills, drawing on the expertise and mentorship of programme academics. Sessions included topics ranging from Getting the most from your Systematic Review by Jon Livingston-Banks to What makes a good DPhil by Carl Heneghan and Anne-Marie Boylan.

During the week we took the opportunity of welcoming film company NiceTree to interview students about their experiences studying on their CEBM programmes and other aspects of their lives, as well as to capture the experience of the week. Keep an eye out for videos of the students which should be available in the next couple of months!
