BSc PhD MBBS PGDip FRCGP Kamal R. Mahtani - GP & Professor of Evidence Based Healthcare Professor Kamal Mahtani is the Course Director of the MSc in EBHC Systematic Reviews, Professor Kamal Mahtani and lead tutor of the Complex Reviews module. Kamal is interested in improving the understanding and use of evidence, particularly systematic reviews, in knowledge translation, health services research, the assessment of novel technologies to improve patient-centred chronic disease management, and social prescribing.  
DPhil MSc MA Rafael Perera - Director Medical Statistics and Director of Graduate Studies

Rafael Perera is the Director of the Statistics group in the Nuffield Department of Primary Care Health Sciences. His main research focus is the study of monitoring for the management of long-term conditions, such as Type 2 diabetes and hypertension. 

Rafael currently supervised DPhil projects looking at biomarkers associated with healthy ageing, prediction models to identify children with serious bacterial infection, the use of tests in Paediatric care, and how to improve the uptake of Clinical Prediction rules in Clinical Practice.

DPhil (Oxon) BSc (Hons I) Georgia Richards - Teaching Fellow in EBM

Dr Georgia Richards has worked on several systematic reviews to understand the safety of treatments and improve patient care, including the safety of opioids, artificial intelligence, morbidity, and mortality of traumatic brain injuries in children, and continuity of care for people in rural and remote regions. 

Georgia is conducting a living review of preventable deaths and would support reviews on patient safety, harm, the management of pain, open science, open data and meta-research.

BA MSc PhD Richard Stevens - Professor of Medical StatisticsAssociate Professor, Richard Stevens, is the Course Director of the MSc in EBHC Medical Statistics. As a medical statistician his research interests include monitoring chronic diseases, especially diabetes and hypertension, and clinical prediction rules, especially risk scores. 
DPhil; MSc; BSc Clare Bankhead - Professor of Epidemiology and Research Design

Clare Bankhead's research focuses on diagnosis and monitoring of non-infectious diseases.

One strand of her research is investigating symptom profiles and experiences prior to diagnosis, mainly in cancer, and another focuses on methodological and statistical issues of large or routinely collected databases. Clare is the module coordinator for 'Introduction to Study Design and Research Methods'
MEng DPhil Susannah Fleming - Senior Quantitative Researcher

Susannah Fleming is a senior quantitative researcher and module coordinator for Essential Medical Statistics. Susannah's research focuses on monitoring and diagnosis, particularly using "vital signs" such as heart rate, respiratory rate, oxygen levels, temperature, blood pressure, and capillary refill time.

She is keen to supervise students considering research on monitoring and diagnosis and has particular experience in systematic reviewing and meta-analysis, observational research, and diagnostic accuracy studies, and so would welcome students considering any of these methodologies.
