RESEARCH INTERESTS
My background is aging, cancer, nutritional and clinical epidemiology. Most of my previous research has been around the influence of vitamin D in the development and prognosis of cancer in older adults. I am very experienced in the analysis of large cohort studies, systematic reviews, traditional and individual participant data meta-analysis.
More recently my focus has been on diagnostic accuracy studies, diagnostic meta-analysis and network meta-analysis. Most of my current research projects have something to do with biomarkers/tests of inflammation and with infectious diseases.
At the moment I collaborate with:
- the NIHR Applied Research Collaboration (ARC) Oxford and Thames Valley Applied Digital Health theme
-
the OxValve and NewKi cohort studies funded by the NIHR Oxford Biomedical Research Group (BRC)
- the Cochrane Tobacco Addiction Group
TEACHING
I am involved in the teaching of medical statistics to undergraduate Medicine Pre-Clinical year 2 students, and postgraduate students in the MSc in Evidence-Based Health Care and MSc in Medical Statistics. I teach sessions on Introduction to Meta-Analysis in R and Network Meta-Analysis in the Meta-Analysis module. I am also co-coordinator of the MSc module Introduction to Study Design and Research Methods.
SUPERVISING
I supervise postgraduate students on the MSc in Evidence-Based Health Care and MSc in Medical Statistics, and undergraduate students on the Medicine Pre-Clinical Final Honours School (FHS) year from the University of Oxford. I am also keen and have experience on advising MSc and PhD students in other programs and from other universities.
